Surabaya- Office of International Affairs or Global Engagement of Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Surabaya (Genus) held The Splendor of the 77th Independence Day of Republic Indonesia by playing Indonesian traditional games and followed by 32 International Students come from 12 higher education institutions and 13 Countries on Thursday, (18/08).
The event is opened in Auditorium Unusa with the remarks from one of the representatives on behalf of International Students, Alhussein Marzuk from Yemeni, and one of Universitas Narotama students.
“On behalf of the International Students in Indonesia, I would like to extend my sincere congratulations to all the Indonesian people. Yesterday was a special day in the history of this great country, the day of dignity and freedom that Indonesia gained because of the blood of its sons and their great sacrifices” said Marzuk.
He also thanks Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Surabaya which has been good arranged The Splendor of the 77th Independence Day of RI for International Students.
“I would like to thank you all for giving me and the International Students this opportunity to share this joy with you, and also thank the guests and those who are present today at this event, and we do not forget to thank Nahdlatul Ulama University for inviting us and also for their good arrangement of this event,” Marzuk said.
Not only for sharing the joy of Independence Day with International Students, but Genus also wants to introduce Indonesian traditional games to International Students that are often played during Independence Day of Indonesia.
Rector Unusa, Prof. Achmad Jazidie said that International Students are invited to feel joy in Indonesian traditional games.
“We want to introduce one of the Indonesian activities in celebrating Independence Day. Especially the activity that expresses joy and happiness” Said Jazidie.
Students from Asia, the Middle East, and Africa are introduced to four kinds of Indonesian traditional Games that are often played during Independence Day. Such as eating cracker competition, clogs race, sack race, round bamboo tray competition, and collecting rubber bands.
“These traditional games have become part of the Indonesian culture in celebrating Independence Day each year” add Jazidie
Prof. Jazidie hope, this event can be memorable when they go home to their home country.
“They can know Indonesia further, before playing the games they are served Indonesian cuisine but the most important thing is they finally know how Indonesian people celebrate Independence Day.” Close Jazidie
