Surabaya, 20th June – Global Engagement of Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Surabaya (Genus) had the opportunity to visit the office of the Consulate General of Japan in Surabaya on Thursday, June 20th. This event is part of the monthly activities organized by Japan Corner Unusa, an initiative aimed at deepening students’ knowledge and understanding of Japanese culture, education, and opportunities.

The visit provided valuable information about various scholarship programs available for further studies in Japan, as well as practical experiences directly related to Japanese culture. One of the most anticipated activities for the students was the practice of Shoudou, or Japanese calligraphy. Shoudou is not only an art form but also a discipline that teaches patience, precision, and focus.

During the Shoudou practice session, the students were taught by experienced calligraphy experts. They learned about the history and philosophy behind this art, as well as the basic techniques of writing Japanese characters using brush and ink. Each stroke and brush movement carries meaning and must be performed with care, making this experience deeply profound and memorable.

Additionally, this event served to strengthen the relationship between Unusa and the Consulate General of Japan in Surabaya. This collaboration is expected to open more opportunities for Unusa students to study and develop themselves in Japan. The students also had the chance to interact directly with the Consulate staff, gaining firsthand information from reliable sources and expanding their knowledge about various aspects of life in Japan.

Overall, the visit not only enriched the students’ understanding of educational opportunities in Japan but also provided a deep cultural experience. Japan Corner Unusa successfully organized a highly beneficial and inspiring event, which will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the personal and academic development of the students. Activities like this are essential in building bridges between cultures and education, as well as preparing students to become competent and globally minded citizens.
