Surabaya- Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery, Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Surabaya (Unusa) continues to organize engaging academic events by hosting a guest lecture (8/7). Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery Unusa welcomes a distinguished speaker from Universiti Teknologi MARA Malaysia (UiTM), Dr. Siti Khuzaimah Ahmad Sharoni, who is the Head of the Nursing Department at UiTM.
The event, held at the Auditorium of Unusa’s Tower Campus B, with the topic “Concept and Practice of Nursing Home and Home Care Nursing in Malaysia.”
Dr. Siti Khuzaimah Ahmad Sharoni shares her insights and experiences on the concepts and practices of nursing home care and home care nursing in Malaysia.
In her presentation, Dr. Siti Khuzaimah emphasizes the importance of a holistic approach to elderly care and home care. She also discusses various challenges faced in the implementation of such care and practical solutions that can be applied.
“This holistic approach not only focuses on the physical aspects of the patient but also includes psychological, social, and spiritual aspects. By considering all these aspects, nurses can provide more comprehensive care and improve the overall quality of life of patients,” she explained.
Dr. Siti Khuzaimah addresses the numerous challenges encountered in the implementation of elderly care and home care. Many families still perceive elderly care as merely providing medication and food, without considering their emotional and social needs.
“There are several solutions to address the challenges in elderly care, including enhancing training and education for nurses so that they better understand and can implement a holistic approach in elderly care. Additionally, conducting educational campaigns for the community is also crucial,” she stated.
This guest lecture is part of Unusa’s efforts to continuously improve the quality of education and broaden students’ horizons through various international academic activities. Such events are expected to better prepare Unusa students to face challenges in the workforce, especially in the healthcare sector. (nrl/humas/genus)
